A couple of Reviews AND Giveaways…Along with Guest Designer Spot for ME…..

Hey Everyone…….I hope you are all having a WONDERFUL week so far!!!  Can you believe just how FAST the month is going by!!! WOWZERS….before we know it the year will be gone!!!

So…I am SO EXCITED to share some FUN FUN news with you today…….First I’ll start with the fact I was asked by Liz with Cricut Personal Die Cutter to be a Guest Designer for their forum….Now keeping in mind they asked me  earlier this year when I still owned my Cricut…..I had asked her if she wanted me to step down from the Guest Designer position due to the fact I no longer own a Cricut and she advised she did not…..she felt it would be a great idea for me to share a project that I had created with my Lynx to show the members of the forum just what I can do with my machine….I was MOST happy to do that…….Also… the makers of My Memories Suite Scrapbooking software to review their program and share with you my thoughts on the program…and in the process I actually get to give away  the software to one lucky winner!!! How COOL is that!!! I’m excited……

image

Now as many of you may or may not know….I don’t scrapbook…….just never something I’ve really gotten in to…But I do create cards and other mixed media ART……and I really love using digital images and graphics…….I also LOVE using my Black Cat Cutter Lynx…..named “Sable”…..so I wanted to some how utilize the My Memories Suite Software and Inkscape/Signcut with my Lynx “Sable”……..

So…having watched some of the tutorials they’ve created for the software I realized the program will allow me to utilize SVG files…What?????  Well….how COOL is that!!!!  I LOVE my SVG files…..as you all know!! Winking smile  So I knew I wanted to use the SVG files along with a digital stamp…..so I needed to think of an idea….I decided I wanted to take a decorative frame image and make a “frame around the frame” kind of thing…here’s the image I started with…..

ScolledFrame

I’m not sure where I found this image on the internet….but I fell in love with it……So I created a shadow layer and an inside layer and then created a “frame” for it in an SVG format……..I then brought this “frame” SVG file into the My Memories Suite software….by copying and pasting the SVG file into the proper file in the directory of the program……to learn how to do that you really should watch this tutorial they have created…..

http://www.mymemoriesblog.com/search/label/Tutorials

So….After I imported in my SVG “frame” file I had created I decided to fill in with scrapbook paper……….and here’s what I came up with….

Capture

Isn’t that COOL!!!!!!  So then once I created what I wanted I then printed the creation as a PDF…and saved it…..I then imported the PDF into Inkscape and continued the Print and Cut procedure and it worked like a CHARM!!!!!  It’s so FUN cause it opens up so many new possibilites……as I am wanting to get away from purchasing scrapbook papers and simply printing my own as I want them for a project…allowing me to personalize my creations even more……..

So…..Once I had printed and cut that out in which I had also added a few more digital stamps for the center of the piece….here’s the creation I made…….

PDC His Promises Card Design 11-12-2011 (4)

I hope you’ll notice the coloring on the center part and the swirly part of the frame……..I had been asked by Letraset Markers to demo their product to see what I thought about them……..You may or may not remember that I had recently sold all of the Copic Markers I had because I just didn’t really enjoy using them….especially for the cost of the markers…and I had a very large supply of them……I use Sharpies and Bics and the Blicks alcohol markers in my ART……so I was most happy to take the challenge of using the Letraset Markers…….They sent me a set of the markers….here’s what I got…..

PDC His Promises Card Design 11-12-2011 (1)

You’ll also notice the AMAZING print and cut I did with the image I imported into Inkscape from the My Memories Suite Software….The Letraset ProMarker set they sent me was Set 1…..a very nice variety of colors and definitely in my color pallet……..so the only markers I used on this project were these…..I colored the swirly on the frame with the brown and I colored the leaves and flowers with the other colors of the markers…and I colored the rhinestones with the markers…I will say the ink flows SO WONDERFULLY from these markers…they include a blending pen in the set and it does a wonderful job of lifting color where you need it too…the ink doesn’t bleed out….it is every bit the same quality of product as the Copics…I would HIGHLY recommend these markers to anyone….I do not think you would be  disappointed in them in the least…..

I’m totally thrilled with the way the card ended up……between using the My Memories Suite Scrapbooking Software and the Letraset Pro Markers……along with my Lynx Cutter “Sable” I was able to create the perfect card…..So I thought I would share the file with you….but I will share that I am unable to share the phrase as it is not my creation…it’s a file I downloaded from another wonderful blogger who has shared this……..And if any of you know which blog it is…I’ll HAPPILY share the link to the blog here!!!!  But I did want to share the remainder of the file with you……if you’re interested in it you may find it here….

  3. Great work, Penny! I love your card -- it is gorgeous! Thanks for the input on Letraset markers. I've been tempted to try them, but I am very sensitive to smell, so I've stayed away so far (I can't use Prismacolor markers, for example). Thanks for the great reviews.

  7. Penny this is beauuuuutiful! I won a copy of the My Memories software and then my antique hand-me-down computer decided not to do graphics AND my external drive with ALL your files quit talking to the computer! WAAAAAHHHHH! When I can find a way to hook it up in a refrigerator or hang it out the window when it's cold outside I've heard that works. Anyway, didn't mean to complain, but wondered what kind of computer you find works best with graphics. My daughter uses a Mac desktop. I need something portable. I wonder if the Macbook Pro is worth the price for a hobbyist?

  15. I'm not so tech savvy - finally found this so I COULD leave a comment! I went to the MyMemories blog and Facebook and like them so much! I'm not so sure about digiscrapbooking yet, but it all certainly helps an aspiring scrapbooker! I'm also so glad to hear about some alternative markers to the copic - I just couldn't see to fit them in my budget! I am going next to those sites and leaving comments there. SO enter me in ALL the free categories you can (I don't have Twitter access on my cell phone, so that is one less for me).

  26. Penny first off Congratulations on doing your guest spot. Your card frame is Gorgeous. Love it. I love to frame things. I went to the My Memories site and really like the Christmas Cookies Digital set and the Christmas Cookies Quick Pages. Both are really cute. I don't have twitter or Facebook. I did go to the blog though and saw all the giveaways they do all the time and contest things they have. Looks like a fun group to belong to. Like all the Software can do also. Thanks for putting me the drawing. I'm glad you liked the LetraSet pens. They are smooth and have a lot of color, that goes on smoothly. I have a set as well as Copics and use them both. Thanks for the new svg file for the card Frame. I need to save for a Lynx so I can print and cut. You are able to do so much of that machine. Mostly because your so Creative!! Take care and Bless you too. Have fun with your new things!

  28. Penny - I love the frame you created. The colors are so warm and rich and I love all those curly q's and swirls! It's nice to see you get recognized after all you've so freely given to all of us over the years. I'm glad some of the companies are recognizing your talent and seek your opinion.
I live Copics but managed to fine some of the Letraset markers at one of the big box craft stores and felt they were as good as Copic but it's so hard to find them making them harder to acquire than Copics. That's the downfall. I wish they'd send me some to evaluate, I love getting new markers and drat, I wish I had known you were getting rid of those Copics!!!
Thanks for sharing another great file with us!
    Hugs, peg

  45. Wow - Great post as usually Penny. Love your created design for he card - well done.

I love Letraset and already have a whole bunch of them, I have the Aquamarkers which are the waterbased ones. Then the recently released fleximarkers that have a brush tip. You may not realise but Letraset bought out a little adapter nib that you can put on the pointed end of the promarker which converts the pen into a fine nib for colouring small detailed images. You can take them off again when you no longer need them on.

Good luck with the guest designer spot at Cricut. They have clearly recognised your talent - whatever machine you seem to be using!

  46. Congratulations on your guest post!
As always, another stunning project from you — love the card.
I had to run straight to Letraset — it was like stepping back into the past — instantly bringing back memories of my job which involved p/u of magazine layouts & using lots of letraset sheets :) Next it was off to check out the markers, I'd not heard of them before. They do look rather fantabulous, certainly wouldn't mind playing with some of these.
